Belichick Starts UNC Season 2

Bill Belichick begins his second season as North Carolina head coach today with a noon ET game against TCU in Dublin, Ireland.

Unlike last year's opener in Chapel Hill, the 2026 season starts in Ireland for Belichick's Tar Heels. The team will be without defensive coordinator Steve Belichick (medical leave) and G.M. Michael Lombardi (administrative leave). sweetbonan.org

Belichick's contract includes only guaranteed pay through 2027. Last season, he went 4-8 with a team that lacked sufficient talent, despite his legendary coaching ability. The focus on high-school recruits rather than transfers this year will determine his future in Chapel Hill.
