Márquez Named Mexico Coach For 2030 World Cup

Rafael Márquez has been appointed as the new head coach of the Mexican national team, succeeding Javier Aguirre for the 2030 World Cup cycle.

The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) confirmed Wednesday that former Barcelona star Rafael Márquez will lead El Tri heading into the 2030 World Cup. Márquez, 47, had been serving as Aguirre's assistant since August 2024, after Mexico's round of 16 exit against England.

Márquez steps into the role with one of the most decorated resumes in Mexican football history, featuring in five World Cups as a player and winning Champions League titles with Barcelona.
