Saints Sign Veteran Punter Ryan Wright

Ryan Wright, a 25-year-old former Tulane standout, spent four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings after going undrafted in 2022. The Saints have cycled through four punters since Morstead left in 2020, with recent rookies including Blake Gillikin, Lou Hedley, Matthew Hayball, and Kai Kroeger failing to consistently pin opponents deep.

Wright brings significant improvement potential, having averaged 49 gross yards and 44.5 net yards per punt last season with 38.5% of his punts landing inside the 20-yard line. His performance contrasted sharply with Kroeger's 44.8 gross average, NFL-worst 37.3 net average, and just 32.1% inside the 20 rate, addressing a critical need for the Saints' special teams.
