Big 12 Tournament glass court has a bizarre problem as March Madness gets underway originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Big 12 Tournament, for both women's basketball this week and men's basketball next week, is being played on a court unlike almost any other.
The court is made out of glass. Officially, it's an ASB GlassFloor. And the reason? It's a full LED video court.
The league can put whatever it wants on the floor, because it's essentially a giant screen.
This is an example of what it can be used to do:

The Big 12's press release when it announced the court promised:
Dynamic court designs
Shot charts
Interactive games for fans during timeouts
Immersive animations following key plays and moments
It'll be fascinating to see how it all plays out.
But with the women's tournament underway on Wednesday, there's one weird thing: Someone forget the midcourt line.
This seems important:
One major design flaw (so far) is there’s no halfcourt line during the game except for in the logo, which is tough to see.

Also, courtside seats now can’t serve drinks because it’s a digital court. pic.twitter.com/T2LnBuu9EO
Given the customizability of the floor, though, this seems like an easy fix. Someone just has to alter the digital design a bit to put that line on, and they can place it right there.
It's a cool concept, for sure. It'll be fascinating to hear the reviews on how the court actually plays, but it has serious potential.
