Assistant sporting director Neil Adams will leave Norwich with head of recruitment Lee Dunn being promoted.
Golden Nuggets: Congrats and good luck to new 49ers TE coach, Cameron Clemmons
Dueling 49ers mock drafts: Who drafted better? (Paywall)
“Barrows: Cashius Howell, edge, Texas A&M: Yeah, yeah, I know — he has short arms. Howell’s levers measured just 30 1/4 inches at the combine, meaning he’d have the stubbiest arms of any Round 1 edge defender this century if the 49ers took him here. His arms weren’t a problem in the competitive SEC, however. He overwhelmed opponents with quickness and relentlessness, finished with 11.5 sacks and was the conference’s defensive player of the year. Defensive coordinator Raheem Morris likes flexible speed rushers, which describes Howell to a tee. Also: I’d bet cash money his arms are longer at his pro day this month; the guy at the combine is notoriously stingy with the tape measure.”
49ers to meet with Missouri LB after NFL Combine snub
“Jacobs turned in some of his best advanced metrics in 2025. He posted a 74.5 overall defensive grade from Pro Football Focus, along with a 78.0 run-defense grade and a 78.7 tackling grade — all career highs. While his pass-rush grade dipped slightly from 77.7 in 2024 to 75.3 in 2025, Jacobs earned at least a 65.2 coverage grade in each of the past three seasons.”
Report: 49ers, Trent Williams remain at impasse amid contract talks
“”From my understanding, there’s been no progress since last week, when the 49ers talked about the optimism that they would get a new deal with Williams to remain with the 49ers heading into this upcoming season,” Garafolo said. “So there’s still work that needs to be done there in the next couple of days to make sure that Williams does not hit the market.”
49ers linked to free agent linebacker with 20.5 career sacks “Over the last two seasons, 18 players have logged 250+ tackles,” Okada wrote. “Only one of those 18 players has logged at least 8.0 sacks, 20 QB hits or 60 QB pressures in that span … and he hit all three. Falcons linebacker Kaden Elliss is, as Gregg Rosenthal put it, ‘one of the most underrated players of his generation … [and] one of the best pass-rushing linebackers in football….And of course, Elliss’ head coach the last two years was blitz-wizard Raheem Morris, who is now the defensive coordinator in San Francisco,” Okada noted.”
49ers promote Cameron Clemmons to tight ends coach, replacing Brian Fleury (paywall)
“Before serving as an assistant to 49ers offensive line coach Chris Foerster over the past two seasons, Clemmons spent four years in Las Vegas. His first NFL coaching gig with the Raiders came in an offensive quality control role. He specifically worked with a tight ends group led by Darren Waller, who was named to his first and only Pro Bowl in 2020, before Clemmons was promoted to assistant offensive line coach. The Raiders offensive line averaged the fewest penalties (4.41) in the NFL during his final season in Vegas.”
Newcastle United 2-1 Manchester United - the fans' verdict
We asked for your thoughts after Wednesday's Premier League game between Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Here are some of your comments:
Newcastle fans
Keith: This was the best performance by Newcastle for a long time and it should motivate the team to perform in this fashion for the rest of the season.
Phil: Only a few things more satisfying than beating Man United, but a last minute winner with 10 men vs 12. This can be the momentum builder for a big end of season finish.
David: Absolutely outstanding 10 men win. Bankes has got previous several times for us, no way was that a dive by Ramsey, poetic justice in the end.
Michael: Tremendous resilience to be even level on 90 minutes. Terrible red card decision and then the equaliser in "Fergie time". Despite being one man down and the top class Ramsdale saves we were the better team in the second half and then Osula scores a worldie!! Sweeter than Apple pie.
Robert: Newcastle looked like the were hungry for the win tonight. Trippier, Linton and big Dan burn looked possessed tonight. Sending off seemed to make us want the win more. Eddie Howe is a man who is calm in everything he does and says and that keep the team together. Howay the lads.
Man Utd fans
Graham: Defeat has been coming when you look at the previous games poor individual performances and woeful passing pressing and covering leaving huge gaps for the opposition let's see how Carrick responds.
Jonathan: This was always going to happen, so in that no need to panic. However, once again showed the bench to be nowhere near good enough. Malacia and Ugarte in particular were awful. Still 4-6 players away from really competing.
John: Too much 'booting' the ball around, not enough strategic passing. Goal keeper constantly putting the ball back in play directly to a Newcastle player.
Bernard: Lacking in energy. A common complaint. Far to slow in build up and coming out of defence. Not enough running off the ball. Sharp contrast in how Newcastle players received the ball in space whilst United received the ball in tight situations.
Steven: This has been coming the last three matches no energy can't pass to one another play so slow which surprises me because Carrick has been in utd team's that play with pace we use to get the ball out quickly now it's passing from side to side and backwards even when we are behind there is just no urgency what so ever anybody would have thought we was playing with 10 and been playing in the midweek from the start of the season for me Carrick should not be the new manager at all.
Athletics GM: We’re always open to Kyler Murray exploring a return to baseball
Kyler Murray was the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft in 2018, signed a contract with the Athletics that year, and planned to pursue a professional baseball career after one final season of college football. Then Murray won the Heisman Trophy in his final season, was the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft, and decided to pursue football instead.
Now Murray has been told the Cardinals plan to cut him, and the Athletics have let him know he'd be welcome to play baseball again.
"Kyler is an elite NFL quarterback and I’m sure there are plenty of opportunities for him to continue his football career,” Athletics General Manager David Forst told MLB.com. “That said, he and his baseball representatives know that we’re always open to him exploring a return to baseball with the A’s if that time ever comes.”
It's unlikely that Murray will change sports at age 28, but he's talented enough that if he wanted to do it, there's a real chance he could make the major leagues. And he's already got a team that would love to see him give it a try.
Brighton 0-1 Arsenal - the fans' verdict
We asked for your thoughts after Wednesday's Premier League game between Brighton and Arsenal.
Here are some of your comments:
Home team fans
Nigel: The reason Brighton lost is not Arsenals fault for the way they played, it's Brightons fault for not scoring when they had the chance! Fabian is moaning and blaming Arsenal but your players didn't score! Simple!
Chris: Toothless up front again. A familiar theme this season. Uncle Tony needs to crunch the data and sign us a goalscorer or two this summer ... please.
Fran: Played recently well tonight. Arsenal's defence kept them in the game. We dominated and they created very little, The referee and linesman were absolutely awful. Didn't seem to know what was going on around them.Completely ruined the whole game.
Graham: Brighton play some excellent football but play a team of mainly midfielders who are extremely limited in goalscoring which costs them valuable points. They need to splash out the cash for a top class striker such as Ivan Toni. They might then qualify for the Champions league.
Sam: Decent performance until the final third. Too many players not sharp enough - Mitoma needs to work on his finishing, no idea what has happened to Georginio and we do look blunt. Arsenal and the referee though, my god. Time wasting, diving, rolling on the floor and the referee allowed this to happen. Disgusting to be brutally honest. I can't believe that Arsenal, with their tactics, are going to win the league. Never left a game as angry.
Away team fans
Vince: Good result, poor performance. What ever happened to all that attractive passing football from Arteta's earlier days at the managerial helm? We bought Gyokeres to give us the Plan B option of no-nonsense, route one football but now that seems more the norm than the exception. That said, like most fans, I'll gladly accept it if we win the title. Which I suppose is why Arteta has turned this into Plan A.
Steve: It looked like we were using this game as a training session for our defense. Disappointing but 3 points works for me.
Mark: Pivotal night possibly in race for prem. With trip to Germany hope Arteta leaves almost all starting 11 at home for fa cup tie. No need for them to travel regardless of result and one of few times left in season we can take that liberty. A few days at home to recharge is massive as we look mentally tired in so many of recent games.
Gabriel: Heart was in my throat. Credit to Brighton for how they played, but we need more attacking intent. I saw nothing special in attack, and if we want to win this league, we need more from the boys up top. End of the day, 7 points clear, let's stay humble Gunners
Matthew: Arsenal showed character tonight against Brighton. Away games like this are never easy, especially against a team that plays good football and presses well. The important thing is that Arsenal managed the game well and stayed disciplined. These are the kinds of matches that win you titles — grinding out results even when it's not perfect. If Arsenal are going the league , performances like this are exactly what the team need.
