A new report analyzing data from prisons across the country has found that the vast majority of strip searches fail to uncover any contraband. The study, which examined search practices nationwide, revealed that less than one percent of these searches result in finding prohibited items.
The authors of the research are now advocating for an end to what they characterize as a "traumatising and degrading practice." They argue that the low rate of finding contraband does not justify the psychological harm inflicted on prisoners through these searches.
