The NFL’s new league year is approaching and will create free agent opportunities for many players. Teams are making tough decisions on contracts in order to acquire fresh talent.
Some players are also making tough decisions. Will they play with their current team? Will they play at all in 2026?

Los Angeles Chargers star defender Khalil Mack has made a decision regarding retirement. He has informed the Chargers he intends to play in 2026, per reports.

This means the Chargers have very little time to get a deal done with his representatives. There was a question as to whether Mack wanted to continue his football career.
Now that it is clear that Mack will play, the Chargers need to simply hammer out a new deal with him. Last season, he signed a one-year $18M deal to stay with the Chargers in 2025.

Last season, he recorded 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and six tackles for loss. He still has some juice at 35 and likely wants to try to contend for a title.
Will the Chargers be in position to contend for a Super Bowl? That is debatable.
However, one thing is for certain: the Chargers are better with Mack than without him.
